Due to lower demand with MacOS users, we are paring back our support for the native HyperDraft MacOS app. After almost a year in operation, we’ve found that most of our users are on Windows or want to operate purely in the cloud. Here are some FAQs we wanted to address for why and how this will affect users:

Does this mean there won’t be a HyperDraft MacOS app anymore? We will continue to maintain a MacOS application, but the update cadence will not be at the same speed as the Windows App and the WebApp. If the demand for the MacOS app increases then we will reconsider, but likely no earlier than Q3 or Q4 of this year. Are you one of the users affected and have an issue with this? If so, we’re listening. Reach out to support@hyperdraft.ai and lets connect. Hold up, what WebApp? We are rolling out a new web-based application with much of the same features that HyperDraft Desktop. So if you’re on MacOS you’ll be covered. Stay tuned for details :) Will the WebApp be usable offline? Yep, as long as you aren’t doing anything that’s internet dependent (such as saving your files to a remote document management system), then you should be good. We’ll cover how we accomplish this in another article. Why are you reducing MacOS support? We’ve realized that the MacOS user group is less than one percent (1%) of our overall userbase while requiring an inordinately higher amount of upkeep and man hours to maintain. The math just doesn’t make sense to support it, and frankly MacOS isn’t known to be an enterprise platform (although most of the folks on our team prefer it). The additional hurdle that we have to deal with is that Apple is increasing its own update cadence with MacOS and with the introduction of the M1 chips from Apple, we don’t have as much stability with the platform. The most important thing to note, however, has more to do with the fact that MacOS users will have feature parity with all of the features offered inside of our WebApp so it doesn’t make a ton of sense building something natively for MacOS. There are companies that focus exclusively on MacOS development without Windows support, with entire teams just to build for Macs. For now, with how lean our team is, it just makes sense for us to focus on Windows and Web. It’s not all bad news. The reason why we are announcing this is because with the reduced native support for MacOS builds, we will have additional engineering bandwidth to let us push out feature updates faster to our other platforms. We have some exciting new products that will launch over the next few months so you should be on the look out!
